Is the New Benefit Corporation Structure Right for You?

Benefit-Corporations-Education-Workshop

Florida recently passed legislation authorizing benefit corporations, a new legal form designed for businesses that seek a positive impact on society and the environment, as well as a positive return to investors. The legislation goes into effect July 1st, 2014.

Could the benefit corporation structure be right for your business? As a benefit corporation, you would join over 800 companies that have already adopted the structure across the country, including leaders like King Arthur Flour, Patagonia, Method and Plum.

B Lab, Conscious Capitalism Florida and the South Florida community of Certified B Corps  will host a free lunch workshop on the new benefit corporation structure on June 4th, including information on:

  • Whether it makes sense for your business,
  • How to elect it,
  • How the structure differs from conventional corporations, and general nuts and bolts.

For those who are moving forward with the change, we will also discuss how to take advantage of the press event on 7/1/14 when the legislation goes into effect.

The event will include presentations by Suart Ames from Stearns Weaver Miller Weissler Alhadeff & Sitterson, P.A., William Clark of Drinker Biddle & Reath and Holly Ensign-Barstow from B Lab.
